Foundations of Clinical Education is a supplemental course for students who enter the first course in Clinical Sciences: Family Medicine 1/Internal Medicine 1 (FM1/IM1). The Foundations course is a requirement for all clinical sciences students and must be completed by the end of week seven of FM1/IM1. There is a full curriculum that includes certification courses such as the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Cultural Competency Program; and the Institute of Healthcare Improvement Basic Certificate in Quality and Safety; a Professionalism program; a short quiz on important aspects of the Clinical Rotation Guidelines; and the Clinical Partners Mentoring program. The Clinical Partners Mentoring Program is facilitated by the Clinical Scholars TAs, aligns with clinical practice expectations, and enhances your ability to perform during rotations.
The Clinical Scholars Program (CSP) is comprised of high-achieving clinical students and recent alumni who have demonstrated academic and clinical excellence during their tenure at AUA. They provide support services to students in CN6 through CN8 through tutoring, Question Partners Program Series and the Clinical Partners Mentoring Program. Students are matched with either a tutor or can self-enroll in a program that allows the Scholar to help identify gaps in knowledge that can improve clinical judgment and reasoning skills.
Each session is 1.5 hours in length and includes the following program options:
The amount of QP Shelf Prep Program sessions are determined according to the length of each core rotation. The QP Comp Prep Program and QP Step 2 Prep Program are four sessions each and contain mixed question sets. All questions within the series address imaging, biostats and ethics. The Residency Advising Program (RAP) is a program designed to prepare students for the upcoming Match Season. It is a collaboration between Clinical EED, the Clinical Dean’s Office and Graduate Affairs. The Residency Advising program includes a wide range of workshops such as
These sessions enhance student awareness and provide information on how students can maximize their potential to enter the match and exit with either their desired or alternative specialty. Students upload required documentation for advisors to review prior to the advising session. Advisors then give insight on opportunities to improve chances of matching in the residency of their choice.
1:1 Advising Sessions are offered by our Clinical Chairs and Deans to provide feedback on overall residency interview readiness. The advising sessions mirror the residency interview process and provides insight on what to expect during an interview with a residency program.
