Anti-Discrimination/Anti-Harassment

AUA reaffirms its commitment to provide a workplace free of discrimination and harassment; to clarify conduct that constitutes workplace discrimination and harassment; and to provide an effective complaint procedure to report such conduct.

It is AUA’s policy that all employees, applicants, students, independent contractors, vendors and other third parties at and outside of the workplace enjoy a safe, professional, respectful and productive work environment, free from behavior, actions or language constituting discrimination or harassment.

AUA has “zero tolerance” for discrimination or harassment of any kind by any employee.  Any employee engaging in workplace discrimination or harassment will be subject to disciplinary action up to and including dismissal.  Managers and supervisors who know or should have known of workplace discrimination or harassment and fail to report such behavior, or fail to take immediate and appropriate corrective action, will be subject to disciplinary action up to and including dismissal.

In addition, managers should avoid any conduct that would give the appearance of impropriety in relationships with his/her subordinates or with others over whom he/she has direct or indirect contact.

  • Visual messages, pictures, materials or innuendoes which are degrading or reflect disparagingly upon a person or class of persons;
  • Slurs and jokes about a person or class of persons which have the effect of stereotyping individuals, such as those who are disabled, homosexual, or of a racial group;
  • Derogatory remarks, rumors or innuendoes about a person’s national origin, race, gender, sexual orientation, age, religion, language or accent, or disability.
