This policy details AUA’s standards and definitions of regular working hours; the workweek; employee status: full-time or part-time; eligibility for overtime pay or time in-lieu ; time keeping requirements; pay periods; direct deposit of paychecks; attendance requirements; paid and unpaid breaks in accordance with the Antigua & Barbuda Labor Code and the AT&LU Collective Agreement. This policy applies to all employees. Full-time (FT), those employees working on average 40 hours a week or more on a regular basis and part-time (PT), employees working on average less than 40 hours a week on a regular basis.
Regular Working Hours:
Full-time administrative employees are regularly scheduled to work a 40 hour workweek. The workweek for administrative full-time employees is typically defined as the University requires. Work hours vary by department. Some areas work a variety of shifts, which may include weekends and holidays. Employees who are regularly scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week are considered part-time employees. Workweek schedules (the number of days or hours worked per week) and the starting and ending times for each day for part-time and temporary employees are determined by the employee’s manager.
Employees that would like to eat a meal or make a cup of coffee after arriving at the office should arrive early and allow time for these non-work activities to ensure that they are at their assigned work location and ready to work at their assigned starting time.
Working hours for each department may be adjusted by the department manager/director during peak periods or to meet customer service requirements. Any changes will be discussed with the employee in advance and employees are expected to be flexible in meeting these requirements.
Workweek:
The AUA workweek begins on Monday at 12:00 AM and ends on Sunday at 11:59 PM. This workweek is the basis for wages and compensatory time off.
