Medicine has changed a great deal in the last 20 years, as has the unique stressors of practicing and teaching medicine, along with medical training. Resilience and burnout are the new buzz words. As a result, many schools and hospitals have adopted wellness programs to combat the trend of increasing rates of student/physician stress and depression.

Dr. Kimberly Mallin, M.D., Diplomate of ABFM, is a Board-Certified Family Physician who has been in practice for over 20 years.  She graduated from East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine and completed a Family Medicine residency at Medical University of South Carolina/Trident Hospital Systems.  In addition to working in her private Family Medicine Practice, Dr. Mallin was on faculty at the College of Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina for many years, where she was involved in training Family Medicine Residents.  In 2014, she moved to Antigua where she developed the on-campus University Park Health Center which provides health care for the over 1000 students, faculty and staff of AUA COM.

[infobox title=’Dawn Roberts, MA – Associate Director for Wellness & Inclusion ‘]

Dawn Roberts is a doctoral candidate in Educational Leadership at Liberty University. Dawn earned her Bachelor of Science from the University of Delaware with concentrations in Human Resources and Economics and her Master of Arts in Applied Sociology. She is Nonprofit and Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL) certified. While earning her master’s, she researched the causes of the attrition of underrepresented minority students. She has many years of medical education experience, working in many different capacities in student affairs, advising, leadership training, engagement, policy, and program development, as well as in diversity and outreach.
