Every year, St John’s Lutheran Church holds its annual Health Day. And every year, AUA student volunteers, staff and faculty pitch in to provide residents with a basic health screening. This year was no different.
On Saturday, October 13th, AUA volunteers screened a total of 210 individuals from the local community, including families with children. From 8:15am to 3pm, fifty-four student volunteers, three staff members and 27 faculty – including 16 MDs – rendered basic checkups to local residents. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to experience a wide array of health issues across a range of ages.
AUA’s participation in Health Day was just one part of the school’s wider community outreach efforts this year. In September alone, AUA hosted a football camp for children, donated medical supplies to the Cedar Grove Clinic, and presented children’s books on sickle cell anemia to the Antiguan Ministry of Education.
