A group advising session will be\u00a0offered immediately after CAS 1 scores are available. During these\u00a0sessions students will complete a self-reflection on academic performance and\u00a0develop an action plan that addresses time management and study strategies.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><b>Advising (Group and One-on-One)<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>The institution utilizes a Split Model of\u00a0advising in which students are afforded the opportunity to interact with faculty\u00a0advisors, as well as professional advising within the EED. Advising is designed to\u00a0foster close faculty and student interactions that promote holistic student\u00a0development and provide institutional guidance. Students will be able to seek\u00a0advice on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Time Management<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Concept Mapping<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Increasing Cognitive Skills<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Note-Taking &amp; Note-Making<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Critical Thinking<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Active Learning &amp; Studies Strategies for Medical Education<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Dissecting Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Exam Performance Reviews<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Financial Aid SAP<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">STEP 1 Prep<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Study Plans for Exams\u2026.and much more!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Book an individual appointment using the<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/myaua.auamed.org\/?page_id=6542732\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\">EED Bookings<\/span><\/a><\/strong> or sign-up for a group\u00a0advising session via Blackboard.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><b>Cognitive Processing Course (CPC1 &amp; CPC2)<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>The CPC program is designed to support students who are repeating Year 1 (Semester 1) or Year 2 (Semester 3) by giving them proven study and learning strategies applicable to medical education. The program supports student success by identifying and remedying competency issues; introduces study and learning strategies; helps students implement and practice new strategies; and promotes student-centered collaborative learning and active learning.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><b>Medical Scholars Program<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>Medical scholars are high-achieving students who serve as teaching assistants and\/or tutors for fellow medical students. They support students by reviewing concepts, subject matter, and test strategies. Not only do they offer weekly supplemental instruction sessions for students in Semesters 1-4 &amp; BSIC, but they also offer tailored sessions for students in the CPC and Pilot Programs.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><b>Men\u2019s Cave Mentoring <\/b><\/h3>\n<p>A program that influences academic achievement, encourages positive self-awareness, and supports diversity and inclusion practices. During each session, we engage in conversations on a range of topics relative to masculinity and medicine. We also provide a guided two-hour block to strengthen self-regulated learning skills. The program highlights the unique needs of diverse students with the intention to increase chances of success. Each meeting provides opportunities to share personal and professional advice.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><b>Peer Mentor Program <\/b><\/h3>\n<p>The Peer Mentor program at AUA is designed to develop and\u00a0foster beneficial relationships between upper-class students and new med one-semester\u00a0students. Mentors will draw on their experience to provide advice, encourage strong\u00a0study habits, and assist with acclimation to AUA and Antigua.<\/p>\n<p>The program pairs experienced basic science students with first semester students who\u00a0are looking for advice and guidance in adapting to medical studies, AUA, and Antigua.\u00a0Mentors will provide mentees with the social and other resources necessary for success\u00a0at AUA and on the island.<\/p>\n<p>Sign-up for a peer mentor at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.surveymonkey.com\/r\/K3KBP2T\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>this link<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><b>Pilot Program <\/b><\/h3>\n<p>Designed to assist new students who have been identified as academically at-risk. Students are introduced to various learning strategies, create an effective study plan that allows for review of concepts and principles learned in each respective discipline of Med 1, learn how to dissect MCQs, and learn how to improve test-taking skills and decrease test anxiety. Beyond the first semester, Pilot students are encouraged to continue to meet individually with an EED faculty advisor.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><b>Study Buddy\/Group Program <\/b><\/h3>\n<p>The Study Buddy Program is an optional benefit for students to form study groups, typically of 2 to 5 persons. Study groups can help students to focus on specific topics of concern, to gain a new perspective on the material, and to help fill in the gaps. Study groups set their own time and place of meeting, however, it is recommended that study groups maintain consistency such as meeting at the same location if possible and have similar times and days of the week for meeting.
